Of Mice And Men

Part 1: The part of the novel is of two men dreaming of their own farm. They see to escape the past and start out fresh. It all falls apart with one decision, Thus; the dream dies.

Part 2: The main themes would be impossible dream and the power of women. Lennie a huge strong man who has the mind of a child and his friend/protector George a small dark of face man. They wish for a new start and their own land. The new land leads to a new start and not having to work on other people's land. The women end the dream. Lennie loves to pet soft things so one day he touches a girls soft dress. Well she screams, Lennie's only instinct is to hold on for life. George takes Lennie before the kill him for rape. The two men end up in another farm work stay out of trouble. Until another women's neck is snapped by Lennie.

Part 3: The protagonist(s) Lennie and George are static. They don't change in anyway and stay the same.

Part 4: A symbol would be the mouse. Lennie as sated earlier loves to pet soft things. Well he finds a mouse pets it and touches it until his strong fingers kill it. The mouse represents the future to come. In the past we see he rips a SOFT dress and kills a SOFT mouse. The foreshadowing of when the two men start fresh in a new farm.

Part 5: I choose this book because I read it before  and wanted to refresh myself on it. When I read it I understood much more. Once you pick it up you can't put it down.

Part 6: I saw so much of Lennie in myself how he never wants to fail and works hard to accomplish his dreams. Lennie isn't the smartest but with help he'll understand.

Part 7: One idea I will never forget would be when you love something set it free. For example, on page 106 "And George raised the gun and steadied it, and brought the muzzle of it close to Lennie's head." George set Lennie free otherwise Lennie would've ended up on jail. When you love or care about something set it free.

Antiogone Quick-Write

If my sister wouldn't help me because she's scared well I'll help myself. I would burry mu brother in honor because he was totally radical and he didn't deserve to die. I am willing to die to do the right thing. I first will burry my brother in honor and put his soul to rest. Then expose my jerk brother as an unworthy coward. If that plan fails I will resort to plan B. Plan B will include killing my uncle.  I'd have a hit man do the deed. I would take the throne. First, declaration as king un burry my loser brother and tell my citizens he was pathetic and nothing. He started pointless fight; therefore, my other brother should be buried in honor. My citizens and I would throw a huge ceremony to honor my late brother and set his soul to peace

Jonathan Safran Foer Webinar review: (Persuasive, Funny, & informative)

Jonathan Safran Foer author of Eating Animal had a guest appearance on The Daily Show to speak of his book. The host asked Foer many questions regarding the food industry and why we shouldn't eat meat. asks for to literate an example of animal torture in the industry. Foer state 99% percent of American agriculture is factory farming and the fastest sector in America. Foer adds on by saying we have breed animals so much that the thanksgiving turkey is not capable of sexually reproducing they are artificially inseminated.

1) one stand out moment was when Foer stated the turkey and how it can't even reproduce due to malnourishment and weight.  How can an industry so large and so profitable not allow a turkey to even live a comfortable life. In fact, turkeys are restrained in huge cages with little water and food  that is genetically manipulated to grow as large as possible as quickly as possible. America in my opinion should be better and end the slaughter.
2) Stand out number two would be when Fore says "we are eating tortured flesh.". which is true the meat industry treats animals as if they have no feelings or cannot feel pain. The animals can't speak up for themselves that is why we the human race should. Imagine if your cat or dog was tortured for it's meat right in front of you. You would help him or her because you love and care for it. So why are cows, pigs, fish, chicken, and turkeys any different,

3) Last and by all means least stand out moment for me is when the host mentions that everyone should be vegetarian. I am a proud vegetarian. If the whole world was vegetarian animal abuse would come to an end, cancer and other diseases would be less common. one of my favorite quotes and life motto would be the Peta motto "Animals are NOT ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any way".

LITERATURE ANALYSIS

  1. The Color Purple by Alice Walker is about a young girl named Celie and her diaries of being sexually abused by her stepfather Alphonso and Mr._____ who is her husband later in the novel. Celie is constantly called ugly and sexually abused threw out the book for example "he start to choke me, saying you better shut up and git used to it." she then is rapped by her stepfather. Later she is sexually abused by her husband whom by the way she stole from her little sister Nettie. In order to survive the abuse Celie stay on the down low pretends to not exist and keep quite and hope for peace and a happy life.
  2. The theme of the novel is the emphasis of expressing your thoughts and developing the audacity to believe in yourself. Celie in her diaries is writing to God but not because she wants to she pretty much is forced to. Her stepfather Alphonso says "Better not tell anyone but God . It'll kill your mammy" which then she writes to God her story of her being a victim of abuse.
  3. I choose this book off of a recommendation from my older sister she said it was a very good book. I looked into it and saw it was a gruesome tale. Once I read it I couldn't stop I had to know of she was going to be okay or if in the next page she would be dead.
  4. The book was very realistic in its examples of abuse toward women. Women today in some parts of the world are still treated like trash. The women is still in the eyes of some men a maid, or a sex toy and a weak creation. To Illustrate, 70% of women in India are victims of domestic violence, a crime against women is committed every three minutes and rape every twenty nine minutes. This novel is a message to women to rise up against the abuse and show the world they are not the weaker sex.
  5. The authors tone in novel is that the main characters are uneducated, wicked, and naïve. For example, In page one we see a typo done by Celie " Dear God I am fourteen years old. I am I have always been a good girl." Celie is a good girl who doesn't deserve the abuse. Another example would be wicked " It'd kill your mammy" said by her abuser and stepfather Alphonso. This example is both wicked and disgusting what kind of human being would do that to a fourteen year old girl. Naïve is shown in Celie she is constantly putting her self down and thinking her abusers won't abuse her later. "He act like he can't stand me no more. Say I'm evil an always up to no good."
  6. Language in the novel is one of many literary terms which the characters speak Southern and unsophisticated: "He took my little baby, a boy this time. But I don't think he kilt it. (page 3) Another example would be symbolism her diary symbolizes her escape where she is talking to God and acting as her gate way away from the world. Imagery is used as well take page 1 and all its graphic abuse scene including Celie and her stepfather. Another imagery example would be colors threw out the book the appearance of bright color is for example Mr.____'s transforms the house by painting it white which is a new beginning in literature. God would be another symbol his name is mentioned to begin every page. Celie sees him as her listener even though she doesn't really understand him.

CHARACTERIZATION
  1. Direct characterization would include; Shug's love for Celie helps her learn to love herself and learn self-worth. Example two would be the diary which was started as an escape for Celie which is an example of coping with her abuse. Indirect characterization would be when Alphonso beat Celie for winking at a boy in church, Alphonso feels he has to be the dominate male and show his mistress that she obey and listens to him. Example two of indirect characterization would be Celie opening up to Shug and her learning to love herself and step up.
  2. Walker refers to the characters very boring and basic, she uses things including "he/she is sad, happy. Walker describes them very brief and to the point.
  3. The protagonist (Celie) is a dynamic and round she undergoes abuse is slapped around by the world and its harmful ways but yet finds to express herself and find an escape in her diary. Celie learns to love her self and speak up to the abuse and say no.
  4. The Color Purple by Alice walker is a interesting novel which I will remember many thing including women's rights, sexual abuse on teenagers and most of all I've learned even if you yourself is having a morose day cheer up because some people must live with abuse. The word Abuse has a whole new meaning for myself after reading this novel. Abuse is a huge issue today it should be abolished from the world to end. I have a new found respect for those abused they live threw torture and yet still exist as if nothing happened as if there abuser is only "mom" or "dad". I feel after reading the contents abuse should be reported and stopped. My advice for someone planning to read this novel is prepare to love and hate the people in this novel.
