The Joy Luck Club ( Does Jing-mei succeed or fail?)
 
In the The Joy Luck Club Amy Tan shows many mother daughter relationships. One including Suyuan Woo and her daughter Jing-mei. Jing-mei's and her mothers relationship is not good it includes neglect, criticism, and not enough communication. This relationship stays until Suyuan dies from a cerebral aneurysm. Jing must keep what her mother left, she must fulfill Suyuan's legacy. Jing-mei does and grows to be successful and make her mothers wishes fact rather than fiction.
 
 The joy luck club was created by Suyuan Woo with the hopes of forgetting the hardships of life. h Each member of the club takes turns hosting the gathering and everybody in the club is to share happy moments. When Suyuan dies Jing-Mei must take over. Jing-Mei feels incapable of playing the role of her mom. Jing-Mei has always felt insecure and and incapable of leading the club. In the end, Jing-Mei starts to participate in the gathering by playing mah jong. This is the first step to following her mother’s legacy.
 The second part to fulfilling Suyuan's legacy is accepting Woo’s wish to finding her lost twin daughters and meeting them.  Jing-Mei accepted the request of visiting her once lost sisters. By doing this she went further than her mother. Suyuan’s wish turns to Jing-Mei’s wish as well. Jing tells her sisters of their mother’s death and who she was as a person. Accepting her mother’s wish, it soon turns to be Jing-Mei’s wish to give her sisters the opportunity to meet their mother, thus growing closer to her mother and even resembling her intentions. Jing-Mei herself begins to realize how she reflects her mother. Jing-Mei honors her mother’s legacy by to completing her mom's wish of her lost daughters.
      By the end of the novel, Jing-Mei has completed Suyuan’s legacy. Jing Mei has gone to China to meet her older sisters. Her mother’s wish has always been for her daughter to get in touch with her Chinese heritage and to know about her past. Jing-Mei succeeds in this as she discovers the Chinese element within herself. Suyuan Woo’s wish was to reunite  with her lost daughters. Suyuan didn't but her daughter did. Jing-Mei builds connects herself to China and her sisters. Jing-Mei realizes that she's a lot like her mom. Readers can understand that Jing- Mei has truly completed her mother’s legacy. Jing-Mei understands the Chinese half inside her and her mother’s intentions. 
 
Jing-mei has accepted her Chinese half, found her sisters, and understands her mothers intentions. She has not been the best mother but she did believe in Jing. Jing was able to accomplish all her mothers wishes. She honors herself as a Chinese and all her mothers wishes.  Even with her mother gone there connection is much stronger. Jing-mei truly succeeded in all she did and all she will be.
